Learning History Is Hysterical Fun with This Constitution Day School Assembly

Finally… An American History School Assembly Program Satisfies Federal Requirements for Constitution Education

The right school assembly can make learning about any topic fun…even the Constitution! Do your students find learning about history boring? After they attend the “Uncle Sam’s Comedy Jam” school assembly program, your students will never look at history the same way again!

I’m school assembly presenter Tim Sonefelt. I’ve been presenting my Creative School Programs to schools in South Carolina and surrounding areas for over 20 years. After creating the best fun-filled assemblies on science, math, reading, and other topics, I know how to blend education with fun.

My school clients and their students love my programs. Here’s what one recent school said:

“Tim Sonefelt is a must-see experience! Everyone loved him!” ~ Nancy Carswell, Pelion Elementary, Pelion SC

That’s not the only one. Not by a long shot! You can check out what other satisfied clients say throughout my website.

But you might be wondering how in the world I take a topic like the Constitution and make it fun? Glad you asked…

3 Powerful Ways the “Uncle Sam’s Comedy Jam” School Assembly Makes History So Much Fun

Learning about American history doesn’t have to be dry or dull when Uncle Sam is teaching! To keep your students’ interest throughout the show, I use three ‘main’ tools:

1. Magic: Yes, I use magic to illustrate certain lessons. The magic becomes a ‘memory hook’ for the messages, making it easier for your students to recall them later. Oh, and this is important…every bit of magic has an important history lesson tied to it. I never do a magic trick unless it’s to reinforce a bit of history!

2. Onstage Participation: Hold onto your hats because I use up to 18 kids as volunteers during this show! (How many other assembly presenters can say that?) And they are actively involved, whether it’s role-playing, helping with magic, or taking part in the strangest birthday party ever!

3. A Feast for the Eyes: Check out the pictures on this page. “Uncle Sam’s Comedy Jam” is enhanced by bright, colorful backdrops, banners, props, and costumes. And when I dress up as Uncle Sam, the kids can’t take their eyes off me because I look so cool! Okay, maybe they just can’t believe a grown man would dress like this, but my costume definitely holds their attention!

What Topics Does This Assembly Program Cover?

Of course, all of this fun and interaction isn’t worth much without powerful lessons. Your classroom time is too precious to waste on a show that doesn’t deliver on its promise of teaching the Constitution so your teachers don’t have to!

Here’s just a small sample of what I cover during “Uncle Sam’s Comedy Jam:”

  • The Declaration of Independence
  • Democratic Values
  • The Articles of Confederation
  • Common Good, Justice, Equality
  • The Thirteen Colonies
  • The Framers
  • Shays’ Rebellion
  • The Constitutional Convention
  • The Constitution & Bill of Rights
  • Amendments and Rules
  • Problems of the Colonists
  • Patriotism and Symbols of Freedom
  • The 3 Branches of Government
  • Separation and Balance of Powers

That’s a LOT to cover in 45 minutes. But I promise it’s all there. Everything is taught in clear, easy-to-understand language. Both primary and intermediate school age kids will have no problem following this fun-yet-educational school assembly.

You’ve Never Seen History Taught Like at This School Assembly

Up to now, I’ve covered what topics are included in “Uncle Sam’s Comedy Jam.” I’ve covered the three main ways I hold the attention of even the most ‘wiggly’ students with this fast-paced assembly program. But now it’s time I reveal some of the off-the-wall, hilarious ways I illustrate these lessons:

  • The 3 Branches of Government are transformed into a “death-defying” feat with Gatorade, a wooden triangle, and a dog’s leash! (Okay, It’s NOT ‘death-defying’ but it will cause every student in the room to scream with delight!)
  • Shay’s Rebellion turns three volunteers into historical figures with hysterical results
  • The problems with the Articles of Confederation are demonstrated magically with two volunteers
  • The Bill of Rights is introduced as the goofiest birthday party ever, complete with a whopping TEN volunteers onstage!

There’s plenty more, but that should give you an idea of just how entertaining each lesson in “Uncle Sam’s Comedy Jam” is!

But now, you have to take the next step.
